There are NOT ENOUGH WORDS to describe how happy I am that these are finally available (…and finally done! Haa haa!). This has been my little passion project, a homage to a tv show that has won my heart, and the first thing I was inspired to create once I was officially on my own. This summer, I rewatched every episode, took notes on them, and recorded quotes and feelings I had. I sat down with my notes, played with colors and font, and turned all of it into this fun, compiled collection of paper moments from season 1.
You can download them all at the following page:
It was a lot of work, but I knew I wanted to take my memory keeping of the series to the next level. …I mean, a favorite TV show is something that’s a part of your life every. single. week. How could you NOT want to document all the feelings that come up?
Also, while making these printables, I realized that it’s really hard to reproduce the feelings you have the first few times you’re exposed to an episode. The show hit me, like really struck me with the content and the conversations it brings up, and with season 2 only days away from debuting (yay), I most definitely wanted to have a system in place that readied me to record it.
Because there ended up being so many pages of printables (18 episodes worth!) I’m going to use a separate 6×8 pocket album for them. I purchased this one from amazon (because of its ‘This Is Us’ yellow spine) and while I’m waiting for it to arrive, my pages are chillin’ in an extra album I had laying around.
You can also include them in your Happy Planner® pocket pages, or even make a separate mini album by adhering the cards right onto the pages and embellishing around them!
I’m already pretty in love with how my album is coming along. It’s been fun journalling my thoughts and jazzing up cards. I designed the ‘grab your tissues’ card with the plan to embellish it with a real Kleenex® tissue. Haa haa! You can see the steps below:
It’s no secret that the show evokes #allthefeels, which then results in #allthetears, so I made sure there wasn’t a shortage of ‘crying’ themed cards in the collection.
That scene in episode 13 “Three Sentences” when all of Kate’s pent up emotions from her childhood and father’s death come barreling out of her while she’s pounding the mat at the camp?! That scene gets me every time. Every single time. Destroys me. Hence, the card:
I’ve provided a quick little clip below for reference. Sheesh, even the .gif is brutal.
(Also SIDENOTE: Let’s talk about it…like, whyyyyy the eff didn’t Chrissy Metz win the damn Emmy? This scene! I mean, this scene! Okay, I’m done now.)
Something I enjoyed while designing season 1 was being able to create a specific few cards that worked together to tell the story of one episode, like I did for “Pilgrim Rick”…
This sort of ‘episode-themed’ card set was difficult to do for every episode of season 1, being that I was working with the whole season all at once. However, I predict documenting season 2 will be different, since I plan on designing a printable page or two each week – in real time. This will make this sort of ‘episode-themed’ card set undoubtedly easier to execute. That’s right – get ready for some #THISISUSprintables each week of season 2 from yours truly.
This is your memory keeping mission, if you choose to accept! Haa haa! (…and if you’re as friggin’ obsessed as I am. OBSESS MUCH?)
So, you still have a few days before season 2, and now that you’ve come to end of this post, here’s what I suggest you do:
1. Head over to my This Is Us Printables page, download, and print.
2. Choose where you want to house your printables, and what format you want to document in.
3. Visit nbc.com to rewatch all the episodes (or as many as you can) of season 01, and brush up on where we’re at.
4. Mix and match designs, fill out the cards that call for some journalling, and just have fun with it!
5. Watch This Is Us on Tuesday, and wait for my first printables for season 2! // Make sure you’re subscribed to my newsletter to gain first access to them! Hooray!
Thank you for all of your enthusiasm about these, you guys. I’ve been sharing some sneaks over the past few weeks, and they’ve been met with heart emojis and cheerful anticipation. I have truly appreciated it.
P.S. – I sooooo needed the above card in my life …and for the record, I am in complete denial over Jack’s impending death. No. Nope. Sorry. Just NO. about sums it up.
P.P.S – I found out right after publishing this post that it was a year ago today that This Is Us made its debut on NBC with that pilot episode. Coincidence? Maybe. …but maybe not.
