September 21, 2017

Summer is my favorite, the season of my soul, so everything feels a little more special. With today being the last official calendar day of my beloved summer season, I thought I’d do a post about the things I want to remember from it.

I skipped a post of this kind last year, but I did write one for 2015, 20142013, and 2012 and in the past it’s been one of those posts that I refer back to all year long until the next summer arrives and my soul feels at home again.

This year I thought it might be fun to use my memory keeping Happy Planner® to talk about summer because…well…it’s all in there – cropped, resized, and printed from home! Haa haa! So without further ado… I give you Summer 2017…

JUNE: I want to remember the dance studio being my happy place.

I want to remember celebrating Kenny’s graduation on a rainy Sunday in Pennsylvania.

I want to remember those last two weeks building up to my last day working for me & my BIG ideas.

I want to remember how I was equal parts terrified and excited.

I want to remember my summer bulletin board.

I want to remember Anthony & Ashley’s engagement party, us in all black, and John saying “I always knew I was meant for the cannoli life.”

I want to remember that red mango date my sister and I had, and how misty the air was.

I want to remember my hilarious commentary to her:

I want to remember Carmen chasing her tail in that carpet-covered tootsie roll my mom built for her.

I want to remember getting back to the Alley Pond trail with my sister, and jogging up that hill again.

I want to remember rereading Big Magic at the start of the summer.

I want to remember reading a few pages in my mom’s backyard while Alejandro rolled around in the grass.

I want to remember those June nights when it was still so cold, and my sister putting it all into perspective:

I want to remember getting down in the grass with Alejandro, and rubbing his belly and kissing his fat head.

I want to remember how John’s book light changed my life.

I want to remember the few Wednesday nights out to Martino’s with my family for ‘fish night’ and that one Wednesday Ness came back to my apartment and we had a sister planning session. Carmen joined too.

I want to remember that day at James’s upstate pool that we first exposed Raelyn to swimming!!!

I want to remember my family’s love & support during this time.

JULY: I want to remember how many dance practices there were those first two weeks of July! Jeez!

I want to remember our date night to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

I want to remember sitting in the sun.

I want to remember 4th of July at Marissa’s house, with John, Ness, Eva, and Nick.

I want to remember the slip’n’slide.

I want to remember playing badmitten.

I want to remember watching fireworks go off on John’s block.

I want to remember that weekend trip to the Poconos.

I want to remember that hike to the waterfall.

I want to remember the car ride home, and John and my talk.

I want to remember washing up and finding a tick on my leg!

I want to remember John laughing and telling me it was the curse of la garrapata (tick in Spanish).

I want to remember how that pony tail braid thing was my hairstyle of choice this summer.

I want to remember how much Halo Top ice cream we ate!

I want to remember how Pistachio is my favorite, followed by Oatmeal Cookie, and most recently: Pumpkin Pie! Ahhh!

I want to remember going out to Chinese Buffet with John’s family the day before his birthday.

I want to remember John’s casual at-home birthday Monday.

I want to remember that I made him vegetarian chili.

I want to remember that we had Halo Birthday Cake ice cream with candles so he could make a wish.

I want to remember our Bachata dance routine!

I want to remember Vic as my partner.

I want to remember that slutty next-to-nothing outfit.

I want to remember how much I love performing.

I want to remember really knowing that routine.

I want to remember the confidence I had in my own skin, even though I’m a few pounds heavier than last year.

I want to remember how much I loved how this July dashboard came out…

I want to remember all of Raelyn’s milestones: her first ‘applause’, the first time a clip was put in her hair…

I want to remember that video of the first time she caught on to ‘peek-a-boo’. I die.

I want to remember still having fun with my Happy Planner® stickers.

I want to remember that leaf dress from Old Navy, those stretchy ‘jeans’ from Cotton On.

I want to remember that last weekend of July being filled with so much good life stuff.

I want to remember that tented 30th birthday for Vanessa’s boyfriend Jose.

I want to remember Junior dancing salsa.

I want to remember that flan on my lap.

I want to remember our Sun-date.

I want to remember the IHOP pancakes breakfast we had.

I want to remember biking on that hot day in the park.

I want to remember how hard it was to pedal uphill on gravel.

AUGUST: I want to remember how much it felt like crunch time.

I want to remember knowing the month was going to be jam-packed with projects I put on my own plate and self-imposed deadlines.

I want to remember those ice coffees in my mason jar mugs.

I want to remember feeling overwhelmed, but being able to calm myself down and navigate it better than ever before.

I want to remember eating diner food outside with mom.

I want to remember that Sunday afternoon John, my sis, and I spent by the pool.

I want to remember how crazy my sister was this summer over her breakup with Eric.

I want to remember all the good, hard emotional work she did to get through it.

I want to remember how much we were there for each other.

I want to remember banging out those first few drafts of my ‘This Is Us’ printables.

I want to remember our Saturday evening bike ride through unexplored parts of our neighborhood.

I want to remember getting mom’s Jeep passed to me, and how it felt like a ‘new car’.

I want to remember practicing for the NYC Salsa Congress.

I want to remember experiencing the solar eclipse.

I want to remember how delighted I was by those dancing crescent moon shadows!!!

I want to remember getting to be with my two kitty-kids this summer, and how grateful I am that they are my two anchors.

I want to remember celebrating Claudia’s 21st (!!!) Birthday at the house.

I want to remember winding down the night singing karaoke.

I want to remember that Aunt Laura had the weight loss surgery.

I want to remember that week I was summer-sick with congestion.

I want to remember how much tea I drank to try to cure it, and shopping with mom for remedies.

I want to remember fight night.

I want to remember dancing all the way through to September. I want to remember desperately needing a break from it.

I want to remember how full, and good, and refreshing summer 2017 was, but also how equally jam-packed and #verybusy I was. Good stuff, though. Good stuff.

I want to remember Raelyn’s cheeks and how her face was my favorite on the whole planet.

Adios, Summer! I will miss you, but I’m definitely feeling happy for the new season. I already got a head start on some fall fun with my sister painting pumpkins. I’m thrilled for season 2 of This Is Us, and to get back into our Sunday night routine with The Walking Dead! I’m excited to continue building this site, and come up with new content. I’m going to check out some business classes and a calligraphy class for free at the library. My secret project is still being worked on behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to let you all in on what it is, and see what comes of it. …and of course, Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years…the usual run down of the last third of the year. Let’s do it, I say! What do you say?

NOTES ON MY MEMORY KEEPING HAPPY PLANNER®: You can learn about most of the techniques you see in this post (the photo resizing, at-home printing, etc.) in my online class with Big Picture Classes entitled “Memory Keeping in The Happy Planner®”. The digital journalling approach that I’ve been using in my planner this year is kind of the 2.0 to that class, and I plan to explain more about it on this site in weeks to come. In the meantime, you can get more peeks of it at this hashtag: #ARZ_memorykeeping2017. And you can shoot me any questions you may have in the comments section below, or contact me through this form. // Xoxo

    Hi Amanda,
What printer do you use for your photo printing? Thanks in advance.

I use an HP Photosmart 7520! I bought it from Staples a few years ago, and it’s been serving me well! I also buy the HP ink and the HP glossy photo paper from Staples! 🙂

Love this post! In my head, this is what I want: all the pix printed, journaling done. Check! Reality? No time, driving here & there, HW, laundry, dinner, lunches, late nights w Netflix, soccer games & more soccer games… the list goes on but I do squeeze in a few mins at random times! I need more of this in my life! Hence, your 100 days list! =)

Once the habit with your digital template is established, it really does make things much easier, but YES. Life still gets in the way sometimes for me too. <3 xoxo!
